Part 1: 朗读 Reading Aloud — The 3 Things Examiners Actually Mark
1. Tone Accuracy (声调)
Mandarin has 4 tones plus a neutral tone. Mispronouncing a character's tone is a mark deduction. Common Singapore mistakes: treating 3rd tone (falling-rising, like 我) as flat; rushing 轻声 (neutral tone) characters. Use the TTS playback on each passage to hear correct pronunciation before practising alone.
2. Fluency — No "Re-reads"
Stopping mid-sentence and restarting breaks fluency marks. Train by reading the passage silently first, then aloud without stopping — even if you make a small error, keep going. Real PSLE passages are 180–220 characters. Three weeks of daily 200-character practice builds fluency stamina.
3. Expression — The Mark Separator

- Pause at commas (，) and full stops (。) — do not rush through punctuation
- Slow down for 4-character phrases — give them weight
- Raise volume slightly at the climax of the passage; lower it at reflective closing lines
- Use the passage's emotional tone as guide: sad passages read slower and softer; inspiring passages read with energy
Part 2: 看录像谈话 — The 3 Question Types
Every oral conversation has exactly 3 questions, always in this order:

Giving a generic example ("I once helped someone") instead of a specific, vivid one ("Last Tuesday, I saw an uncle drop his water bottle in the MRT — I picked it up and gave it back to him"). Specific details = more marks every time.
