Many 记事 compositions read like a diary: 「早上我起床,吃了早餐,去了学校,下午回家。」 Every event is true, yet the reader has no reason to keep reading. The fix is a process, not a bigger vocabulary. This post gives a three-step one a parent can walk through with a child.
Step 1 — 选一件事: choose one moment, not one day
A whole day cannot be told well in a few paragraphs. Ask your child: 「哪一件事,我到现在还记得最清楚?」 Then narrow it down to a single scene that can be told in sequence — 起因 (what started it), 经过 (what happened), 结果 (how it ended). Say the three parts aloud in three short sentences before writing anything.
Step 2 — 加一个小波折: give the story one small turn
A story where everything goes smoothly is hard to remember. It need not be dramatic. A forgotten umbrella, a wrong turn, a wobble on the bicycle — one honest obstacle is enough, and it gives the 经过 a shape.
| Flat (a list of events) | With a small twist |
|---|---|
These sentences are my own and only show the pattern. Your child should use a real small difficulty from their own life; borrowed drama sounds false.
Step 3 — 写出改变: say what changed in you
The ending of a 记事 composition works best when it grows out of the story. Ask two questions: 「这件事之后,我对什么有了不一样的看法?」 and 「我下次会怎么做?」 A sentence such as 「原来问一句话并不丢脸,不懂就问,事情反而更快解决。」 is more convincing than a slogan stuck on the end, because the reader has just watched it happen.

After drafting, ask three questions: Is there only ONE main event? Is there at least one place where something got in the way? Does the final feeling come from what happened, not from a ready-made sentence?
A worked example (short)
Moment: buying soya sauce alone for the first time. Twist: three identical bottles. One moment, one twist, one change — and nobody was told 「我很勇敢」.
A 10-minute practice routine
- Pick one memory and say 起因, 经过, 结果 in three sentences. (2 minutes)
- Write down one thing that got in the way, however small. (2 minutes)
- Write the 经过 in 4–5 sentences, including the twist. (4 minutes)
- Write one sentence about what changed in you. (2 minutes)
Do this once a week with a different memory. Combine it with the opening-and-ending post and the sentence-expansion questions in our earlier posts so each part of the story gets practised on its own.
