Parents always ask about composition. But honestly? Many students lose MORE marks in Paper 2 because they underestimate it and don't do targeted practice. "Just read the passage lah" is not a strategy — Paper 2 has very specific question types, each with its own technique.

Q1–Q3: 词义理解 (Word Meaning in Context)
These questions give you a word used in a sentence and ask which option has the SAME meaning in a different context.
💡 Technique
Don't just look at the word in isolation. Read the WHOLE sentence in the question, then test each answer option by substituting the word back in. The correct answer will feel natural and not change the sentence meaning.
Q4–Q7: 成语运用 (Idiom Usage)
- Know not just the meaning but the CONTEXT each 成语 fits (who says it, about what situation)
- Common trap: two 成语 with similar meaning but different subjects (e.g. 废寝忘食 for studying hard vs 孜孜不倦 for diligence generally)
- PSLE frequently tests: 半途而废, 迷途知返, 废寝忘食, 助人为乐, 舍己为人, 一鸣惊人, 自食其力, 恍然大悟
- For unfamiliar 成语: eliminate obviously wrong options first, then check if the remaining one fits the sentence tone
Q8–Q10: 关联词 (Conjunctions / Connectives)

💡 Technique
Read the logic of the sentence FIRST before looking at options. Is this a contrast? A condition? An addition? Once you identify the logic, match it to the correct conjunction pair. Do not guess randomly.
Q11–Q13: 辨字 (Character Recognition)
- Common confused pairs: 带/戴, 在/再, 做/作, 坐/座, 像/象, 的/地/得, 那/哪, 己/已
- 对于 的/地/得: 的 for nouns (红色的苹果), 地 for verbs (慢慢地走), 得 after verbs showing degree (跑得很快)
- Practice by reading Chinese daily — character recognition improves through exposure, not just memorisation
Q14–Q15: 词语选择 (Word Choice)
- Common trap: words that seem interchangeable but have different registers (formal vs colloquial)
- Check if the word is used with people, things, or situations — some words collocate specifically
- E.g. 爱护 (to cherish/protect — usually for things/environment) vs 爱戴 (to love and respect — only for people)
Section C: 阅读理解 (Reading Comprehension)
- Read all questions FIRST before reading the passage — this tells you what to look for
- Underline key information as you read (names, dates, sequence words, cause-effect phrases)
- For inference questions: the answer is always supported by text evidence — do not infer from your own knowledge
- For vocabulary-in-context questions: substitute and test each option
- If unsure: eliminate obviously wrong options, then choose from the remaining ones based on passage evidence
⚠️ Common Comprehension Mistake
"I know this topic, so the answer must be X." Wrong lah! Every MCQ in PSLE comprehension has its answer IN THE PASSAGE. Do not answer from your own knowledge — answer from what the text actually says.

Don't spend too long on one question. If you're stuck, mark it, move on, and come back. One question is not worth sacrificing the rest of the paper.
